Position Summary:

East End Community Service (known as East End), is a 26 year old human services organization that serves the high poverty neighborhoods of inner east Dayton. Our mission is to design and implement programs and services, and build strategic partnerships, that empower children and families to move from struggle to stability to success. East End’s vision is to be recognized as a leader in ‘whole family’ (aka multi-generational) approaches that break the cycle of generational poverty. East End employs about 50 dedicated people and operates within a budget of $2.8M. East End is a proud member of the ‘WestCare Family’ and is legally known as WestCare Ohio.

As a member of the team working with the Aging Well Project, this individual will be responsible for understanding the needs of isolated seniors and what things can be done to increase engagement with other seniors and the community. This individual will work closely with the SOS Case Manager and RISE 4 Seniors Prevention Program Coordinator to help identify opportunities to support implementation of activities and programs that will create better health and wellbeing outcomes for seniors.

Essential Job Functions:

Working with Seniors Prevention Services Coordinator and Case Manager, this individual will:

  • Identify, organize and plan programs, activities, and events that educate, entertain and enhance the lives of seniors engaged in Aging Well program.

  • Meet with Prevention Coordinator and Case Manager to plan activities and programs that support cognitive, social, physical, and creative outlets for senior.

  • Maintain and share lists of upcoming activities and events for seniors within the community.

  • Work with providers and other partners to set up events, programs and services.

  • Build relationships and identify opportunities to encourage senior participation.

  • Work with SOS Case Manager and Prevention Coordinator to determine appropriate activity levels based on participants’ cognitive and physical abilities.

  • Help collect event feedback surveys and track data for attendance and event activities.

  • Collect materials, resources, food and other items for program events.

  • Manage event set-up, tear down, and follow-up processes, as needed.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to obtain and maintain WestCare vehicle insurance.

    Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

    Experience and Competencies:

  • Ability to foster teamwork, working cooperatively and effectively with others

  • Flexible work schedule during and after normal business hours, and occasional weekends

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Motivated, organized, and focused with an attention to detail

  • Ability to maintain the highest degree of professionalism, confidentiality, discretion, tact, and flexibility, and can prioritize and manage multiple tasks

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and willingness to learn about other computer systems

  • Capable of remaining calm in stressful situations

    Working Conditions:

  • Work is primarily performed outside of the office, within community centers, library, senior centers and other facilities; and

  • Some outdoor activities may be required.

    Physical Demands:

  • Requires mobility and physical activity: Having an adequate range of body motion and mobility to work in an office, residential, or outdoor environment including standing and walking (even and uneven surfaces), sitting for extended periods of time, bending, twisting, reaching, balancing, occasional lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds . Use of computer and telephone systems is required which includes coordination of eye and hand, and fine manipulation by the hands (typing, writing, and working with files). Requires the ability to defend oneself and clients in physically abusive situations through the use of approved physical de-escalation techniques.

  • Requires talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Talking is required to impart oral information to employees, clients, patients, and the public, and in those activities in which the employee is required to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly.

  • Requires hearing: Hearing is required to receive and communicate detailed information through oral communication.

  • Requires seeing: Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and at distance. This factor is required to complete paperwork for many of the employee’s essential job functions and to observe client behavior and activities in and out of the facility.

  • The normal work routine involves no exposure to human blood, body fluids or tissues. However, exposure or potential exposure may be required as a condition of employment. Appropriate personal protective equipment will be readily available to every employee.

  • Requires the ability to collect and analyze complex numerical and written data and verbal information to reach logical conclusions.
